Glimpses of the History

St. Peter’s Malankara Catholic Church community had a humble beginning. By the providence of God, the parish community continues to grow in Houston in manifold ways due to the dedicated sacrifices of numerous faithful from the pioneers to the present generation. The major milestones are given here:

1982 September 26 – His Grace Benedict Mar Gregorios visited and celebrated Holy Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Houston

1985 December 12 – A Malankara Catholic prayer group was formed and functioned as the precursor to the church.

1993 July – Holy Mass was started once a month at St. Mark Catholic Church, South Post Oak, Houston.

1996 September 2 – The community was named as St. Peter’s Malankara Catholic Mission, Houston

2004 October 30 – The community purchased a property in Rosharon, Texas, and Most Rev. Dr. Issac Mar Cleemis, the then Apostolic Visitator, dedicated the church at Rosharon in the presence of Most. Rev. Daniel Dinardo, who was the Coadjutor of Archdiocese of Galveston- Houston.

2008 April – A new 3.5 acers campus was purchased in Stafford and started functioning in the new church by the end of May 2008

2012 February 12 – St. Peter’s Malankara Catholic Church, Houston was officially established.

2012 November 27- Foundation stone was laid for the new church building.

2015 March 7 – The new Church was blessed and dedicated by Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius in the presence of Most Rev. George Sheltz, Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Galveston- Houston and Most Rev. Mar Joy Alappatt, Auxiliary Bishop of Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago.

2018 November 28 – Pastoral visit of Most Rev.Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos, Bishop of Syro Malankara Catholic Eparchy of USA and Canada.
